What is the Edale Skyline Challenge?
The Edale Skyline is one of the UK’s most iconic long-distance walks. It takes you through the beautiful hills around Hope Valley in the Peak District National Park. In addition, the 20-mile (32 km) route includes around 1,300 metres of climbing. Along the way, you’ll pass famous landmarks such as Mam Tor, Lose Hill and Kinder Scout. Overall, it’s a challenging yet rewarding way to enjoy some of the Peak District’s best scenery. What’s more, you’ll have the support of experienced mountain leaders and encouragement from the group throughout the day.
The Edale Skyline Weekend
Travel to the Peak District
Travel to and from the Peak District is not included in the package. So everyone will need to arrange their own travel. However, we do tend to travel together. For example, in previous years, many people have travelled as a group, especially by train. So closer to the weekend we’ll share our travel plans with the group. Therefore, anyone who wants to travel with others will have the chance to do so. If you’re travelling by train, the nearest stations are Hope and Edale. You can reach them via Sheffield or Manchester.
Friday 21 May Arrival
We’ll meet at our accommodation in the Hope Valley area on Friday. Once everyone has arrived, there will be time to settle in and prepare for the next day. Before we begin the challenge, we’ll also have a final briefing. This will cover the route, timings, weather, kit and everything you need to know for Saturday.
Saturday 22 May Challenge Day
After breakfast, transport will take us from our accommodation to the start of the Edale Skyline route. We’ll then set off together for around 8–10 hours in the hills. Experienced mountain leaders will guide and support us throughout the day. Finally, transport will take us back to our accommodation at the end of the challenge. There will then be time to rest, recover and celebrate what we’ve achieved together.
Sunday 23 May Breakfast & Departure
After a well-earned night’s sleep, we’ll come together for breakfast on Sunday morning. It will also be a chance to celebrate what we’ve achieved, share stories from the challenge and enjoy some final time together as a group. Afterwards, we’ll check out and make our way home after a memorable weekend in the Peak District.
Edale Skyline Accommodation
The weekend includes two nights’ accommodation in the Hope Valley area, from Friday 21 May to Sunday 23 May 2027. Also, rooms are shared, with two people in each twin room. As part of the package, breakfast is included on both Saturday and Sunday morning. Closer to the weekend we’ll share full details about the accommodation, check-in and facilities.
FitFunActive Training
To help you arrive ready for the hills, we’re offering an optional 10-week FitFunActive training programme. The group sessions will take place at the FitFunActive studio every Monday at 6pm, starting on Monday 15 March 2027. The programme will build your strength, fitness and endurance for a long day in the hills. As a result, you’ll arrive better prepared for the challenge. It’s especially useful if it’s your first major hiking challenge or you’d like to train alongside others.
However, we understand that Monday at 6pm will not work for everyone. Instead, you can still prepare with us through our Small Group Personal Training sessions if you can’t attend. These offer more training times, and your programme can be tailored to help you prepare for the Edale Skyline Challenge. Prices for these sessions are different from the 10-week challenge package. Lastly, you can find out more about Small Group Personal Training here.
